About The Village Hall and Site

The Village Hall

The village hall has a proud history of community involvement and volunteer effort.

The site was purchased from Suffolk County Council in March 1998, after which a dedicated group of local volunteers set about transforming the building into a modern, welcoming village hall. Through a combination of grant applications, local fundraising and community support, the building was refurbished for the benefit of residents and the wider community.

Looking Towards a Greener Future

In 2025, the village hall was awarded the Norfolk Carbon Charter Bronze Award, recognising our ongoing commitment to reducing the environmental impact of the hall.

We are continuing to look at ways to improve our carbon footprint and make the village hall a more sustainable facility for future generations.

The villages are extremely grateful to the organisations and foundations that provided funding and support for the project, including:

  • 21st Century Halls (Millennium Commission)
  • Foundation for Sports and the Arts
  • Rural Development Commission
  • Norfolk Rural Community Council
  • Corpusty & Saxthorpe Parish Council
  • Garfield Weston Foundation
  • Lloyds TSB Foundations
  • Paul Bassham Charitable Settlement
  • Bernard Matthews

The Railway Station

The former Corpusty & Saxthorpe Railway Station has been newly refurbished in the original Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway (MG&N) colours, restoring much of the character and grandeur of this historic building.

The station first opened in 1883 as part of the Eastern and Midlands Railway and remained in service until its closure in 1959.

Today, the restored station is an important part of the village’s railway heritage and a fascinating reminder of the area’s past.

For more information about the history of the station, please visit the Wikipedia page.

Village Allotments

The village hall site is home to ten allotments, which are enjoyed by local residents for growing a wide variety of vegetables, fruit, flowers and other plants.

The allotments provide a great opportunity for villagers to grow their own produce, enjoy gardening and make the most of the outdoor space.

Football Area & Outdoor Space

The village hall site has plenty of attractive green space, providing an ideal area for outdoor activities and recreation.

The grounds are enjoyed by local residents for walking, dog walking, football and other games and activities.

There is also a children’s playground with a range of equipment, including swings, a slide and a zip wire, providing a fun and safe space for younger visitors to enjoy.

The combination of open green space and play facilities makes the village hall grounds a valuable recreational area for the whole community.
